The aesthetic events industry has officially been kick-started

Aesthetic Medicine Live 2021 gave a kick-start to the events industry, with the first aesthetic exhibition and conference in 17 months.

‘It’s great to be back’ was a consensus shared by both visitors and brands, with face-to-face networking hugely missed by all.  Mark Moloney, Managing Director explains “Aesthetic Medicine Live was the first trade event in any major UK centre since the pandemic and the team and I are proud to play a small part in helping the profession to connect; providing so much live content and networking opportunities. Equally important, there was some solid business done on the stands. I’m very grateful to our exhibitors, visitors and speakers who kept faith, also to our suppliers and the Olympia management.”

Over 2400 visitors discovered the latest technology in person and experienced treatments first hand, such as the Erchonia Emerald Laser billed as the world’s first green laser, Cynosure’s new treatment Flexsure, the Opatra Capsulate full body massage chair and HyraFacial bespoke facials with Boosters. Brands showcased new and updated devices, skincare ranges and combination treatments, with headline sponsor Cutera unveiling its new Secret PRO device. Brands Chroma and Harley Technologies who had been waiting to launch their devices into the market exhibited at the show for the very first time.

The show clearly demonstrated a buoyant and thriving industry that was ready to do business. Dr Raj Thethi who is setting up a new clinic purchased 3 devices “We’ve been interested in a few machines for a while so it’s been great to finally see them in person, have a look around and do some shopping”. The new Live Demo Theatre gave visitors the chance to watch brands perform treatments that clients will be requesting this year along with all the information required to make an informed purchasing decision.

Lockdown has had a devastating impact for many, however, many clinics put this time to good use. Jamie Cross, Business Development Consultant from Lynton advised “Clinics have really taken the time to reflect on their businesses, identify where they can be more efficient and want to know more about treatments with a higher earning opportunity”.

Aesthetic Medicine Live hosted four streams of education spanning the whole spectrum of practice, from clinical topics like injectables, skin and body treatments to the ins and outs of running a business, as well as specialist subjects such as plastic surgery and regenerative medicine.

The Conference was divided into 4 topics and Mr Ali Ghanem hosted the popular Aesthetic Regenerative Medicine agenda once again allowing delegates to tap into the growing trend for a 360-degree approach to anti-ageing and regeneration from the inside out. The session on reducing treatment downtime Using RF Microneedling & CO2 laser combination with Dr Rishi Mandivia and Dr Tatiana Lapa was particularly well received by business owner and nurse Amanda Wilson “I do a lot of device treatments in clinic and it’s made me think more about combination treatments, I’m now considering introducing lasers to my clinic”.

The Business Workshops programme offered access to successful clinic owners and leading business consultants to inspire visitors to grow and develop their clinics. Advice on making practical and financial business decisions and marketing support was welcomed by business owners. When asked if coming to the show has helped his planned clinic expansion Ali Juma, Plastic Surgeon and Consultant, advised “Yes - I’ve been able to listen and interact with people who are business experienced, I’m a surgeon first who’s been in business 19 years, so I have a different mindset. The legalities and tax responsibilities have been a particularly helpful session”.

The UK Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (UKAAP) held their annual one-day conference at the show, alongside for the first time Consortium of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Clinic Owners (CAPSCO) conference, bringing more education for surgeons than ever before.

Aesthetic Medicine Live offered the industry the first face-to-face networking opportunity of 2021 and the excitement in the air was undeniable, Dr Nestor Demosthenous comments “It’s fantastic to be back, we’ve missed this so much, interacting with colleagues, networking, learning new things and about the devices and treatments that are out – it’s been too long”.

Brands were extremely positive about visitors’ response, John Culbert, CEO of Cambridge Stratum, explains “ We have been pleasantly surprised how productive the first show coming out of Covid has been. We were concerned that Covid may have overshadowed it but we were busy from virtually the minute the show opened and the people who attended had a serious interest in the products on show and many had imminent purchasing intentions.  The initial impression is that this was the most productive show we have exhibited at.”

Sam Keene, Marketing Manager of Cutera UK, headline sponsor, advises ‘It’s great to finally catch up and show people all of our products all in one place, meet the team and speaking in person allows us that personal aspect. I was nervous prior to the event but the first morning brought a huge flow of visitors from our live demonstration to find out about our new launch Secret PRO – there’s nothing better than seeing people actively interested on the stand”.

Simon Ramshaw, managing director of Erchonia Lasers LTD was delighted with the event, ”It’s absolutely fantastic to be at a live event, I think it’s been a very frustrating time for everyone in the industry, and just to interact with everyone again is perfect. Getting them to ask questions live and see the treatments in person, it’s of huge benefit to them and we’ve been chomping at the bit to get here”.

Aesthetic Medicine Live will return to Olympia London in May 2022 on the 13th and 14th May. Aesthetic Medicine North will take place on the 25th September 2021 in Manchester. To register for tickets please visit www.aestheticmed.co.uk
