End to crowdfunding surgery? GMC warns doctors could be struck off
Doctors in the UK caught performing cosmetic procedures on women who have crowdfunded their surgery may risk being banned from practising.
New guidelines, due to be released by the Royal College of Surgeons in conjunction with the General Medical Council (GMC), are attempting to get a handle on the trend which involves women using sites such as myfreeimplants.com to find men willing to pay for them to go under the knife.
The website claims to have provided crowdfunded breast implants to over 1,200 women and encourages cosmetic surgeons, who are willing to perform surgery, to become partners.
Doctors found in breach of the new rules, “could find them-selves in front of the GMC and potentially banned from practising”, said the General Medical Council (GMC).
