2020 aesthetic treatment trends predictions revealed
Jaw sculpting, “baby botox” and male combination surgeries are the top predictions for aesthetics trends in 2020.
A report by The Private Clinic of Harley Street on industry trends and innovations for the coming year had 54% of survey respondents list non-surgical alternatives to traditionally surgical procedures as most likely to grow in popularity throughout 2020.
Specifically, non-surgical rhinoplasty and jaw and temple sculpting using dermal fillers came out on top. The survey was completed by 664 participants from The Private Clinic’s patient database and collated into the report.
When it came to surgical procedures, almost one in four respondents felt that “natural” body shaping methods such as autologous fat transfer or auto-augmentation (a technique that uses a patient’s own breast tissue to alter the shape of the breasts) would be a key trend.
These thoughts are echoed in another report, The Aesthetic Society’s 2020 Plastic Surgery Trend Predictions. The US-based report was compiled with insight from the organisations’ more than 2,600 board-certified members.
In it, high-definition abdominal liposculpting (liposuction and body sculpting with fat transfer) is tipped to be popular among men, along with liposuction for chest contouring paired with magnetic muscle stimulation treatments.
Gynecomastia correction procedures are also predicted to continue to increase in popularity, following on from a steady rise over the last decade.
Subtle results
The report also highlights “baby botox” as a key trend; a term used to refer to target microinjections of a neurotoxin to achieve more subtle results compared to traditional toxin treatments.
More patients are likely to seek treatment for natural-looking results from toxin as opposed to appearing frozen. There is also an increasing awareness among patients of weakening the muscles in the forehead through over-injecting that can later lead to drooping.
The Private Clinic’s report also categorised current treatment popularity by UK region. Interestingly, varicose vein treatments were in the top three procedures in every geographical area, and the third most popular overall. More respondents in the North West and the East of England had undergone varicose vein treatment than any other procedure.
One in five people who had this treatment spent less than a month considering it, suggesting that they could have been experiencing pain or discomfort that drove them towards a faster decision.
Injectables are also predicted to continue growing. This report predicts a market CAGR of 10.8% by 2025.
