Aniston tops list of celebs surgery seekers aspire to look like

Four in 10 Brits are considering having plastic surgery to boost their confidence, help them get a partner or to look like their favourite celebrity, a study commissioned by legal firm Irwin Mitchell has found.

While wanting to change something they don't like about their appearance or boosting their confidence are the most common reasons, the study of 2,000 Brits showed one in 10 believes it will mean more romantic success. One in 10 also said they considering surgery to look like someone famous with Jennifer Aniston, Angelina Jolie, Michelle Keegan and Kate Middleton topping the poll.

Mandy Luckman, a specialist cosmetic surgery lawyer at Irwin Mitchell, said, "It is worrying to see people are considering making what could be drastic changes to their body because they think it will help get them a partner, or even because they want to look like a celebrity."

The figures also revealed that almost one in 20 have already had some kind of cosmetic surgery, but 52% wish they did more to find out everything they could about the surgery and the doctor who would be carrying it out. 43% even said they regret having the surgery altogether.

Luckman, added, "We regularly receive enquiries from individuals that have sustained significant and sometime permanent damage, following cosmetic procedures and there seems to be a pattern that they have not been properly warned of the risks to their health. "We welcome the latest guidance from the General Medical Council (GMC) who are calling for stricter regulations that will not only provide improved support for people whose lives have been turned upside down by complications during surgery, and ensures lessons are learnt, but also reassures those considering treatments in the future that they will not suffer in the same way as so many have before.”
