BAPRAS president Nigel Mercer petitions Government to set up Royal Commission
BAPRAS president Nigel Mercer has started a petition in order to encourage politicians to set up a Royal Commission. Mercer said, “As President of BAPRAS, I have become increasingly convinced that medical professionals, rightly, should not have to decide what society will spend in the NHS and politicians cannot decide because it will lose them votes, yet we are all aware we cannot afford all available healthcare. The only way to break the jam is for a Royal Commission to examine the evidence and decide what the NHS ‘shall/must’, ‘should/can if money is available’ and ‘shall not/will not’ provide. The task is enormous but very necessary.”
