BAS announces speaker line up for 2019 conference

The British Association of Sclerotherapists (BAS) 2019 conference, on May 14  at Dorney Lake near Windsor, promises an exciting and stimulating one day programme for foam sclerotherapy and microsclerotherapy practitioners. Sclerotherapy, said to be the gold standard treatment for leg varicose and thread veins, isn’t generally available on the NHS and is carried out by nurses and doctors in many aesthetic clinics as well as by vascular specialists. “Remaining up to date with the latest evidence and techniques is essential for all practitioners,” says Dr Martyn King, Chair of the Aesthetics Complications Expert Group (ACE), member of the BAS board and himself a practising aesthetic doctor. “However, the major CPD conferences attended by aesthetic practitioners do not as a rule  include sclerotherapy sessions; this meeting aims to address that need and also provide a forum for networking and sharing expertise.”

Confirmed speakers include the following distinguished vein specialists:

  • Dr Marianne De Maeseneer, a high profile vascular surgeon and phlebologist from Antwerp and Vice President of UIP Belgium will speak on “Endovenous treatments for varicose veins: how to choose the right one for your patient”.
  • Emma Davies, RGN NIP, Director of Horrington Clinic and Veincare Training in Somerset and Clinical Director of voluntary accreditation register Save Face UK answers the perennial question “How best to market my microsclerotherapy practice”. Past chair of BACN, Emma helped develop the BACN Standards of Competency for Nurses in Aesthetic Medicine.
  • Prof Andrew Bradbury, Sampson Gamgee Professor of Vascular Surgery at the University of Birmingham and Consultant Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon at the Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust, Birmingham is to speak on “Advancements in managing venous ulcers”. Prof Bradbury, one of the pioneers of Ultrasound Guided Foam Sclerotherapy (UGFS) in the UK, has wide clinical experience of minimally-invasive vein treatments.
  • Mr Ian Franklin, Consultant Vascular Surgeon, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, Programme Director of the annual International Charing Cross Venous Course will address “Selection of treatments for varices following ablation of the saphenous vein.”

The full agenda can be seen on the BAS website https://www.bassclerotherapy.com

The conference is open to all, and BAS members enjoy a preferential rate. 10% discount is offered to non-members belonging to BACN, BCAM and ACE Group.

The British Association of Sclerotherapists is a not-for-profit organisation formed in 2002, with the aim of raising and maintaining standards of responsible evidence-based practice. BAS Members, who include vascular specialists, dermatologists and aesthetic doctors and nurses, benefit from access to a body of experts and specialist resources, a listing on the Find A Practitioner Directory, and discounts at all events. Conferences are held every 1 – 2 years, as well as regional workshops from time to time. The informative website offers advice for patients and practitioners.
