Bullied teenagers increasingly want cosmetic surgery, says survey
An annual survey carried out by anti-bullying charity, Ditch The Label has found an increase in the number of bullied teenagers considering cosmetic surgery.
The survey quizzed teenagers across the UK on a wide range of topics to do with bullying and found more than half of those who responded had been bullied about their appearance. 56% said they wanted to lose weight while one in five said they wanted breast implants and 5% wanted botulinum toxin injections. It also found teens as young as 13 are adding liposuction and breast implants to their wish lists.
Liam Hackett, founder and CEO of Ditch the Label, said the implications of appearance-based bullying are “significant” and can have “devastating, long-term impacts”. He added, “The evidence is clear: young people are now considering drastic and invasive measures to alter their appearances due to insecurities and bullying.”
