Clients are “easily fooled” by counterfeit cosmetic devices says study

Researchers at Hong Kong Polytechnic University have revealed a startling number of clients can’t tell the difference between a fake and legitimate piece of beauty equipment and many do not bother to ask.

As part of the study 300 clients who’d used devices for facial and beauty treatments in the past three years were recruited and shown different types of beauty equipment, some of which were authentic and some, which were not. Worrying just 15.6% of interviewees asked for more information about the machines.

Around 96% of respondents instead listed the skill and experience of the therapist operating the device as the most important factor. equipment quality only ranked fourth for clients when it came to selecting beauty treatments.

Almost half of all participants also said they either never or seldom understood the origins of the devices being used.
