Could new pulse technology offer toxin alternative?
A newly developed technology is being heralded as a possible alternative to wrinkle relaxing injections.
The technology, which uses high voltage, micro-second pulsed electric fields to generate new skin tissue growth, has been developed by a team of scientists at the Harvard Medical School and Tel Aviv University.
The team claims it is a novel non-invasive technique for tissue stimulation and published its findings in the Scientific Reports journal.
Dr Alexander Goldberg of Harvard Medical School commented, "Pulsed electrical field technology has many advantages, which have already proved effective – for example, in food food preservation, tumour removal and wound disinfection. "Our new application may jump-start the secretion of new collagen and capillaries in problematic skin areas. Considering that, in the modern era of ageing populations and climate change, degenerative skin diseases affect one in three adults over the age of 60, this has the potential to be a healthcare game changer."
