European Non-Surgical Standard reaches final voting stage

After a lengthy consultation and development process, the draft Non-Surgical Standard for the European aesthetics sector has reached its final voting stage within CEN, the European Committee for Standardisation.

UK clinical experts and patient representatives have been working on the draft for six years and have been meeting and debating under the auspices of the BSI (British Standards Institution), together with partners throughout Europe.

If the vote is successful, the Non-Surgical Standard should be published by Q32016. The full title is “FprEN 16844 - Aesthetic medicine services - Non-surgical medical procedures”. This would follow on from the successful vote and subsequent publication, in January 2015, of the corresponding Surgical Standard, EN 16372 – Aesthetic Surgery Services.

The publication was the cumulative result of extensive expert input from and collaboration with many groups and Associations in the aesthetics sector. Mike Regan, chair to the BSI CH403 committee responsible for both Standards, received a Leadership Award from the BSI in November 2015.
