IBSA Pharmaceuticals hosts UK party in Milan

Aesthetic Medicine editor Vicky Eldridge travelled to Milan, Italy, to visit IBSA Pharma’s Lodi production site and find out more about its portfolio of aesthetic products, which include Profhilo, Aliaxin and Viscoderm.

Frank Ward, business development manager for HA Derma, the UK distributor for IBSA, hosted the British group, which also included Surrey-based aesthetic nurse Wendy Preston and Yvonne and Amy Senior from the I-Time Cosmetic Clinic in Cheshire. They joined aesthetic practitioners from Russia and Israel on the trip.

Day one saw the group visit the plant in which IBSA manufactures not only its aesthetic products but also its other medical devices, pharmaceuticals and nutritional supplements.

IBSA is particularly known for its expertise in hyaluronic acid (HA)-based products and is in a unique position in the market in that it is responsible for the entire life cycle of the HA manufacturing.

The group was then treated to lunch at a typical rustic Italian restaurant where they sampled local cheeses and other delicacies.

The afternoon programnme saw a scientific presentation by Professor Chiara Schiraldi, University of Naples, on the “game-changing” Profhilo bio-remodelling product. The novel BDDE-free, thermally stable product distinguishes itself from other HA injectables due to its hybrid nature, which means it contains both high and low molecular, weight HA. This allows it to generate hydration and tissue stimulation, alongside dermal scaffold support. Plastic surgeon Dr Riccardo Forte and aesthetic doctor Dr Domenico Romano then presented on their use of IBSA’s products in their practices.

In the evening, the group was taken out for dinner to discuss the day’s activities and learnings and to network with the IBSA team and one another.

Day two was the social programme, with delegates being taken on a walking tour of the city of Milan starting with the famous Duomo Cathedral. The Italian hospitality continued with a leisurely lunch before free time allowed everyone to explore the city further
