Increase in demand for cosmetic procedures among British men

Male cosmetic surgery The number of men seeking cosmetic surgery treatment is on the rise in the UK as enquiries for male breast reductions surged by 49% over the past two years, according to private healthcare search engine, WhatClinic.com.

Popular treatments for men include tummy tucks and liposuction, as well as eyelid surgery. However, face-lifts and hair transplants have both fallen. Male breast reduction was the fourth most popular plastic surgery procedure, according to the data. Nicknamed the “moob job”, demand has grown by 49% in the past year, with Simon Cowell rumoured to have had the surgery. Demand for liposuction has also more than doubled in the past 12 months.

The number of men seeking lipo grew by 21% in the first quarter of 2017, and the number of men interested in tummy tucks rose by more than 13%. Men seeking eyelid surgery to combat the signs of ageing also increased by more than 13%.

Commenting on the data trends, consultant plastic surgeon Omar Tillo said, “I’ve noticed significant growth in the number of men seeking cosmetic surgery in recent years, particularly to improve the appearance of the torso area. “The most popular male procedure requested at the clinic is a male breast reduction surgery, with many patients asking for the appearance of a more ‘masculine’ chest. Men who seek cosmetic surgery are often very fit and attend the gym regularly, but may have recently lost a large amount of weight and have residual pockets or areas of stubborn fat, which they find aren’t improving with diet and exercise alone.”
