Joint Council for Cosmetic Practitioners (JCCP) announces formation of two working parties

Professor David Sines, CBE, the interim chair of the recently established Joint Council for Cosmetic Practitioners (JCCP), has completed an extensive stakeholder consultation process and announced the formation of two major working parties with independent chairs to take the organisation forward to the formal stage of inauguration by April 2017.

Working Party 1: Education, Training and Accreditation – chair Dr Anne Mcnall Northumbria University

This group will develop a range of processes for accrediting practitioners, training bodies and training programmes against the new framework of standards being developed by the JCCP sister body – the new Clinical Standards Authority (CSA).

Working Party 2: Establishment of JCCP Register (s) – chair Mary Lovegrove

This group will design the processes and criteria involved in establishing the JCCP Register (s) of practitioners, training bodies, training courses and premises.

The CSA will also commence work this month with regard to establishing the new framework of standards for the non-surgical sector building on the previous work undertaken by Health Education England (HEE).

Professor Sines said, "I have been overwhelmed by the enormous amount of support received for the work of the JCCP and the CSA across all sectors of the aesthetic industry. The demand for one set of national standards, overseen and directed by transparent, ‘not for profit’ governance processes that can be seen to have the patients’ interest at heart is universal. The process to establish the JCCP and the CSA is complex but is now in full process. It will be the intention to publish regular updates on the progress being made by the working parties."

The JCCP has the support in principle of the Department of Health and many industry stakeholders with a view to developing a new non-mandatory self-regulatory body for the non-surgical sector in England.
