Men's ‘tweakment’ trends for 2024
Male cosmetic surgery is up 70%. With the likes of Robbie Williams and Joe Jones speaking openly about their desire to rejuvenate their face with anti-wrinkle injections, fillers, and RF treatments, men of a certain age are looking for ways to prevent signs of ageing without the drastic changes of invasive surgery. Here are some of the top trends for 2024, according to aesthetic doctors.
1. The Eyes: Polynucleotides
In the quest for smoother skin, polynucleotides are the latest innovation in the world of medical aesthetics – an injectable, skin-boosting, treatment that is regenerative and offers immediate, longer-term effects.
When used on the eye area, they hydrate, plump, and are a powerful antioxidant that ramps up fibroblast activity, promoting healthy and youthful skin.
Dr Elizabeth Hawkes, award-winning consultant oculoplastic surgeon and aesthetic doctor, specialising in eye surgery and eye rejuvenation commented, ”For most parts of the body, you have skin, then a layer of fat and then muscle but around the eyelid, you lack the layer of fat so it’s just skin and muscle.”
Favouring the new product Ameela, she added, “It really makes patients wake up looking refreshed in the mornings. It decreases pigmentation as well as reduces infraorbital hollows, again helping patients look less tired. I’ve also had great success with Ameela Eyes for treating patients with periocular wrinkles, more commonly known as Crow’s Feet.
“My patients feel their skin looks firmer and they don’t have the dark circles that have been bothering them.”
2. The Body: Morpheus8 3D
Exclusively available at The Wellness Clinic in Harrods with Dr Costas Papageorgiou, Morpheus8 3D is the latest innovation from Inmode that enables practitioners to use the infamous Morpheus8 technology for body contouring with less downtime and better results due to its new sequential pulse technology and faster treatment time.
“We're now able to target layers of the skin and subdermal adipose tissue that were previously not possible without surgery,” said Dr Papageorgiou. “The advanced technology of Morpheus8 3D can activate a sustained process of neocollagenesis and structural remodelling with minimal downtime and discomfort. Combined with healthy nutrition and an active lifestyle, this treatment allows people to truly look and feel their best.”
Able to be used on any area of the body, this treatment is ideal for those concerned about loose or excess skin, scaring, or looking to achieve a firmer appearance.
3. The Face: Thermage FLX
Plastic surgeon, Dr Angelica Kavouni says: “When used properly by a certified doctor, Thermange FLX tightens saggy skin and improves the appearance of wrinkles by causing the collagen in the skin to contract, resulting in the tightened appearance.”
“Thermage is a skin tightening treatment that works on all three layers of the skin; a visible outer layer on the surface called the epidermis, a collagen-rich under layer beneath the surface called the dermis, and an inner layer beneath the dermis called the subcutaneous layer that has a web of collagen fibres running through it. As we age, the collagen in these three layers breaks down and we see our skin starting to wrinkle and sag. Unfortunately, treatments that work on just the surface can’t do anything to restore the collagen within the dermis or the inner subcutaneous layer of the skin. Thermage FLX is the only non-invasive procedure currently available that works on all three of these layers.”
Supporting this treatment option, Dr Johanna Ward of The Cosmetic Skin Clinic added, “The results of the treatment will last up to 1 to three years depending on the age and condition of the skin. As the collagen is deposited and remodelled, the skin continues to heal which will continue to improve the results over the next few months. If the patient is looking to maintain the results, then we recommend a treatment once a year.”
