Patients seek help following “faux-tox” injections
Transform Cosmetic Surgery, has revealed an alarming15% rise in the number of patients seeking help followingtreatments with non-registered “faux-tox” salons.
The survey also revealed that 84% of youth-seekersadmitted to having absolutely no idea what was being injectedinto their faces or even if the injection given actually containedbotulinum toxin. More worryingly, patients are not being treated in aclinical environment, despite being given a prescription-onlymedicine.
Nearly a third (29%) of respondents have had atreatment at a local beauty salon, 10% have happily had oneat home or a friend’s home, and 3% have been treated at a“beauty treatment party”, and had no idea if the injector wasappropriately trained to perform the procedure. Almost two-thirds (62%) of those surveyed did not thinkthat the industry is regulated or that enough is being doneto protect the person receiving treatment – with a thirdhaving felt nervous or frightened before, during and after theprocedure they underwent. Worryingly, 4% of respondents also admitted to buying a toxin from the internet.
