BCAM virtual conference reveals rising complications

Leading experts from the specialty of aesthetic medicine gathered last week for the British College of Aesthetic Medicine’s (BCAM) first virtual conference.

Over the course of the event, speakers delivered 14 hours of content, exploring the latest innovations, techniques and best practice in aesthetic medicine, with topics including complications management, body and weight, women’s health, skin of colour and covid-19

Delegates heard about the rising number of complications in the sector, revealed in the college’s latest data report. The report drew on the outcomes from more than 280,0000 patient consultations in 2019 and data has now been shared with the UK Department of Health & Social Care (DHSC). It blamed the rise in complications on the increasing number of non-medical aesthetic clinics operating in the UK.

BCAM president Dr Uliana Gout commented, “We are proud to have risen to the covid-19 challenge. BCAM is going into its 20th anniversary year next year in great shape even though 2020 has been the most challenging year in the history of aesthetic medicine. BCAM has shown leadership throughout, fact-based leadership, not just opinion, through our work at the highest legal levels plus sharing our unique sectoral oversight data with the Department of Health & Social Care. We strive to fulfil our role in providing clear evidence and information to our Members and colleagues based on facts. Our conference has underlined BCAM’s pivotal role in our specialty.”

The event was supported by Church Pharmacy, HeathXchange, HA Derma, Aesthetic Source, Novo Nordisk, Enhance and Hamilton-Fraser.

The British Association of Sclerotherapists (BAS) has announced a series of short CPD webinars for sclerotherapy practitioners, beginning in October.
