Creo Clinic expands into gender-affirmative treatments for transgender patients
The London-based plastic surgery clinic, Creo Clinic has announced it is expanding its offering to include gender-affirmative treatments for transgender patients.
Specifically focusing on body-related gender-affirmative procedures, the clinic is now offering a range of body treatments that cater specifically to the needs of the transgender community. Such procedures are used often in combination with each other to help a patient’s physical appearance match the gender identity they feel inside.
The move makes it one of only a few clinics in the UK to provide these specialised services.
For male-to-female transitioning patients, the tailored procedures include breast augmentation with implants or fat transfer; and body feminisation contouring via liposuction on the chest, abdomen, flanks, thighs and legs, plus fat transfer to the hips.
For female-to-male transitioning patients, treatments include mastectomy, pectoral enhancement with pectoral implants and calf augmentation with implants. Body masculinisation surgery is also offered via liposuction on the chest, abdomen, flanks, thighs and legs, plus fat transfer to the buttocks, shoulders, arms, thighs and calves.
The decision to provide such procedures was triggered by Creo Clinic’s medical director Dr Omar Tillo’s strong belief that everyone deserves access to top-quality healthcare, regardless of their gender identity. The senior body plastic surgeon also understands that transgender individuals face significant barriers when it comes to accessing healthcare, and, as such, the clinic is proud to be taking steps to address this issue.
All Creo’s staff have undergone extensive training to provide safe, effective, and personalised care to each patient. That’s because, for gender affirmative care, a detailed understanding not only of the face and body is required, but also of the mental health considerations that often surround transitioning.
Dr Omar Tillo now aims to work closely with each patient to understand their unique needs and goals, before developing a customised treatment plan that helps them achieve the physical appearance and gender expression that they desire.
“Transgender individuals may experience distress or discomfort with their assigned sex at birth and may seek to transition to their identified gender,” explains Dr Tillo. “Gender-affirming surgeries can play a crucial role in this process by addressing the incongruity between an individual's gender identity and their physical appearance. I work in collaboration with other healthcare professionals, such as endocrinologists, mental health providers, and primary care physicians, to provide comprehensive care for transgender patients.”
“It's important to note that not all transgender individuals pursue surgical interventions as part of their transition, continues Dr Tillo. “Transitioning is a highly personal and individualized process, and the choices made regarding medical interventions vary from person to person. The decision to undergo surgery is typically based on the individual's goals, overall health, and discussions with healthcare providers.”
That said, the transition of high-profile individuals such as Caitlin Jenner and content creator Dylan Mulvaney – who both received facial feminisation surgery from world-leading American surgeon Dr Harrison Lee – has increased recognition and understanding of such services.
Creo Clinics' decision to offer them in the UK thus emphasises how the British aesthetics industry is evolving to meet patient needs. Its decision reflects a commitment to providing inclusive healthcare to all members of the community, with the hope that the work will have a significant impact on the lives of many transgender individuals who need specialised healthcare services.
