Study compares efficacy of carboxytherapy versus PRP in treatment of stretch marks

A study published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology has compafred the efficacy and safety of carboxytherapy versus platelet-rich plasma (PRP) in treatment of stretch marks (striae alba).

The study included 20 patients with striae alba. Every patient received treatment in the form of PRP injection in their right side (group A) and carboxytherapy session in their left side (group B) every three to four weeks for four sessions. Skin biopsies were taken before and after treatment, and they were subjected to fibronectin immunohistochemical stain.

There was a significant improvement in striae alba in both groups after than before treatment and no significant difference between both groups as regards either percentage of improvement, response (grading scale), or patient satisfaction. Both methods were safe and effective with minimal side effects.
