A new study has shown the role significant loss of volume plays in ageing of the upper lip in older adults. The research was led by Patrick L.Tonnard, MD, PhD, of the Coupre Centre for Plastic Surgery, Ghent, Belgium and was published in the February issue of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
“Our results suggest that the ageing perioral area is affected with a combination of soft tissue lengthening, thinning, and volume loss,” Tonnard said.
The study went on to find that age-related lengthening and thinning of the lip represents more than ‘sagging’ and that “volume loss is an obvious feature of the ageing upper lip.”
