Surge in non-surgical fat-removal
The demand for non-surgical fat-removal procedures rose by 43% in 2014, according to new statistics released by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS).
Since non-surgical fat-reduction was first offered in 1996, ASAPS reports that 2014 marks the first year that more than 100,000 procedures of this nature were performed in a year. Michael Edwards, President of ASAPS, said, “Non-surgical fat reduction is a new frontier in the realm of cosmetic procedures.
The rise in its popularity is indicative of the public’s desire for non- surgical alternatives in lieu of their invasive counterparts.
“Due to the technological advancements and efficacy of non- surgical fat reduction devices, it’s not surprising that more people are opting to freeze or melt away stubborn body far in the comfort of their surgeon’s office as opposed to undergoing surgery; however it must be noted that the results aren’t the same. Not everyone is a candidate for non-surgical treatment as well. Many will still be better served from a surgical approach to include liposuction.”
