The aesthetic experts at the Harley Street Clinic have compiled the 'UK Botox Report', diving into internal booking data to reveal several findings about botulinum toxin usage in the UK. Their research analysed Google search data from May 2021 - April 2025, revealing the most frequently searched uses for botulinum toxin.
Botulinum toxin has become one of the most popular non-surgical cosmetic treatments in the UK, with an estimated 900,000 botulinum toxin injections a year.
Its popularity is attributed to its versatility and ability to help with the visible signs of ageing as well as other medical conditions, such as jaw-clenching, excessive sweating and overactive bladder.
Jaw Slimming
The most popular alternative use for botulinum toxin is jaw slimming, with over 50,000 searches between May 2021 and April 2025. This botulinum toxin treatment is commonly referred to as ‘masseter Botox’, as it is injected into the masseter muscle.
The injection causes the muscle to paralyse and reduce in size, giving patients a slimmer jawline. It is a quick and non-surgical solution, a great option for patients who have prominent masseter muscles or people with a square or wide jawline.
It can also help with bruxism, more commonly referred to as teeth grinding. This is because the procedure temporarily relaxes the masseter muscles, which are responsible for jaw movement and clenching. By reducing the muscle activity, it alleviates jaw tension, reduces the frequency and intensity of grinding, and can also lessen related symptoms like headaches and jaw pain.
'Scrotal Botox'
‘Scrotal Botox,’ also known as ‘scrotox,’ is the second most searched alternative use for botulinum toxin, with 46,000 searches in the last four years. This procedure can alleviate pain in the scrotum.
Its aesthetic purposes have also enhanced this non-surgical treatment; the procedure can tighten the skin, smooth out wrinkles, and improve the appearance of a person’s scrotum. In some cases, scrotum can also reduce sweating in this region and improve sexual comfort.
'Barbie Botox'
‘Barbie Botox’ takes third place, with almost 25,000 searches over the last four years. Botulinum toxin is injected into the trapezius muscles, located between your shoulders and neck, to create a more elongated and slender neckline. Aside from the aesthetic benefits, relaxing the trapezius muscles can also relieve pain and improve posture.
Fourth on the list was excessive sweating, also known as hyperhidrosis. The botulinum toxin injection temporarily blocks the nerve signals that stimulate sweat glands, and this reduces sweating.
Patients are also searching for how botulinum toxin can help an overactive bladder. The procedure involves injecting botulinum toxin into the bladder wall, which helps to block nerve impulses that cause the bladder muscle to contract, therefore this treatment can help reduce patients' urge to urinate.
The search term ‘Holetox’ is also drawing growing curiosity from Brits, with almost 3000 searches. This procedure aims to relax the anal sphincter muscles.
Harley Street Clinic also analysed their internal booking data, revealing the age, gender, and occupation differences of people getting botulinum toxin. You can read more about these findings here.
