Two thirds of Brits regret having cosmetic surgery, says medical negligence solicitor
New research by Medical Accident Group has claimed that two thirds of Britons regret having cosmeticsurgery, with one third of these admitting it wasbecause the results didn’t match the image they’d hadin mind.
According to the poll, 83% of people who’ve hadplastic surgery wouldn’t consider having any form ofcosmetic procedure again. 2,638 people aged 18 and over from around the UK, all of whom admitted to having had cosmetic surgery withinthe past five years, were quizzed about the procedure(s)they’d had done and how they felt about the results. 65%, stated that they “regret having cosmetic surgery”,whilst 28% said they “couldn’t be happier with theresults”. Only one third of respondents, 32%, admittedto having undertaken extensive research into theprocedure they were going to have before the surgery took place, with the remaining respondents stating they“relied fully on the advice/knowledge of the cosmeticsurgeon” (59%) or “relied on others who had alreadyhad the operation themselves” (9%).
Ally Taft, partner at Medical Accident Group, said “We understand that some people feel that cosmeticsurgery could change their life and give them theconfidence they’re perhaps lacking, but we hope theresults of this study show that just because you’renot happy with your body now, that doesn’t meanyou’ll necessarily be happy with it once you pay a lot ofmoney to get it changed. “There are many risks associated with what are often major operations and, unfortunately, we see theones that go wrong. The cosmetic surgery sector isnot particularly well regulated so it is important thatpeople consider whether to go through with a procedurevery carefully and carry out thorough research intotheir surgeon or clinic.”
