TYCT removed from PSA register

TYCTThe Professional Standards Authority (PSA) has removed Treatments You Can Trust (TYCT) from its list of approved accredited registers.

The accreditation panel said, "The Panel was not satisfied that TYCT continued to meet the Standards for Accredited Registers. The Panel decided to remove accreditation because the failure to meet six of the 11 Standards, lapsed compliance with the Condition issued following suspension, and non-compliance with Instructions issued at initial accreditation meant that the Standards could not continue to be met."

The PSA said the panel took into account the impact of its decision on the public, TYCT, and its registrants. The ruling went on to say: "The Panel decided the only sufficient option to address the fundamental failings by TYCT was removal of accreditation. In making its decision to remove accreditation, the Panel took account of the impact of its decision on the public, TYCT, and its registrants. The Panel concluded that removal of accreditation was necessary to protect the public, despite the impact this would have."

The accreditation was removed two days before registrations were due to transfer to the Joint Council for Cosmetic Practitioners’ (JCCP) register. There were nearly 400 practitioners on the TYCT register all of whom are being placed on the JCCP register as provisional registrants.

Sally Taber, director of TYCT, stated, “In July 2017 we informed The Authority that the TYCT Register was to merge with the JCCP Register, which is in the process of initial accreditation with The Authority.  Merger of the registers started on 1 March 2018 in pursuit of the agreement with JCCP, of which PSA was aware.  In October 2017 the Authority renewal panel decided that TYCT had not met its obligations and recommended removal.  The Authority wrote on 23 March “TYCT was still considered an Accredited Register until 27 February 2018 when the decision of the Appeal Panel was communicated.”  The Authority made a press release on 6 March wrongly implying that accreditation was removed in October 2017.   On 23 March 2018, in response to our complaint, it corrected its website announcement to show that accreditation was not withdrawn until 27 February. We regret that PSA felt it necessary to remove accreditation from TYCT Register on February 27, which we believe to be a perverse act, not to the benefit of the public.  The TYCT Register remains in publication and will do so until registrations are transferred or expire. TYCT continues to serve to meet its declared purpose of  accurately informing the public.”

Nigel Chilcott, Director, Cosmetic Quality-Assurance Community Interest Company said , ”There are no known instances of the safety of the public being jeopardised by the information published in the TYCT Register in the eight years of its existence.  We have never received a complaint from the public about the accuracy of the TYCT Register. The Authority  has been unable to demonstrate to us any inaccuracy in support of its contention.   We deny absolutely  that the TYCT Register posed a risk from which the public must be protected, and remain in contention  with The Authority on its decision, which we know failed the essential test of impartiality.   Our Standards for injectable cosmetic treatments have made a unique contribution to increased public safety since 2010.“

The TYCT register is closed to new applications. Practitioners now registered with TYCT transfer to the JCCP register if they have elected to do so.
