UK aesthetic laser market to hit £32m by 2020
The UK’s aesthetic laser and energy devices market is set to grow to £32million by 2020, driven by demand for laser resurfacing and body contouring devices.
The market, which was valued at $30.7m (£20.2m) in 2013, will grow at an average annual rate of 6.7%, beating the European growth rate of 6.5%, according to figures from GBI Research. The aesthetic laser market across Europe’s top five countries (the UK, Germany, France, Spain and Italy) is set to grow to $258.6m (£171m) by 2020, GBI said.
The UK’s share of the total market will grow slightly from 18.5% in 2013 to 18.7% by 2020. Minimally invasive body contouring devices make up the biggest share of the UK market, worth $17.5m (£11.6m) in 2013 and predicted to hit $28m (£18.5m) by 2020, growing at an average of 7% per year. Non-invasive body contouring devices will grow by 5.5% per year to reach $10.9m (£7.2m). However, it’s laser resurfacing devices that have seen the biggest growth. That sector grew by 4% each year between 2006 and 2013, and that rate is set to almost double in the years to 2020. GBI predicts the laser resurfacing market will hit $9.7m (£6.4m) by 2020 with average growth of 7.7% per year.
Michaela Barker, general manager of laser manufacturer Syneron Candela, attributed the growth to advances in technology. “New application techniques mean that lasers are now used to treat a greater variety of indications safely and with little down time for the client.”
