Young women tempted by unproven cosmetic procedures, warns new research

New research from specialist medical negligence solicitors Wixted & Co shows that younger adults, especially women, are increasingly being tempted by the lure of cosmetic surgery and aesthetic treatments with little understanding about the effectiveness or long-term side effects. The company claims this makes them vulnerable to being “guinea pigs” for new and unproven treatments.

The research showed that women are the most willing to have cosmetic surgery with 42% saying they would have treatment opposed to 22% of men.

Nearly half of adults aged 25-34 would have cosmetic surgery, compared to 34% for the whole population and 26% for those 55-years and above.

The research into a representative sample of 2,000 UK adults, conducted on behalf of Wixted & Co by research agency Censuswide, is outlined in its new “It’s your health: Don’t grin and bear it” report available from www.medmist.co.uk/medical-negligence-help

Tim Wixted, the managing partner of Wixted & Co and the report’s author, said, “Our research shows that cosmetic surgery and treatments are firmly accepted as normal by a large amount of the population, but people need to be careful and not be trusting about the veracity of a treatment.  Healthy scepticism is needed to avoid becoming the guinea pig for a new and unproven treatment.”
