Contribute to new survey on keloid scars

Published 13th Nov 2023

Following a previous survey on the British Skin Foundation’s blog, which generated vital results, a group of research scientists from King’s College London are appealing to those affected by keloid scars.

The previous survey helped the group broaden its focus to tackle both keloid pain and itch. Now, researchers are asking a larger group of people to fully understand and study how keloids affect a range of people differently through a full spectrum of experiences. From this, they aim to focus cellular analysis of scars on certain aspects that may make keloids more symptomatic.

The group are asking people with at least one keloid scar to answer questions about their appearance, symptoms, social impact, pain, itch, and other characteristics. Most of the questions in this second survey come from ‘validated questionnaires’, approved by researchers in other areas to accurately assess the intensity and type of sensation that may be experienced, or the impact of your scar on daily living. There are a few questions that the scientists have designed themselves, based on learnings from the previous survey. If you contributed to the original questionnaire, they would be particularly interested to hear from you again.

Completion of the questionnaire should take about 10-15 minutes and questionnaire results will be anonymous, containing no identifiable personal details.
