How to treat ‘turkey neck’

Preventative treatments have become a huge focus for patients, but there is one area of the skin that gets ignored – the neck.

As the skin ages, it becomes thinner and collagen production slows, prompting the skin to drop. This creates an effect festively named as ‘turkey neck’. Traditionally, facelifts were considered the gold standard for treating jowls and ‘turkey neck’ however, with technological advancements, there are plenty of highly effective non-surgical options available.

Three experts home in on how Polynucleotides and non-invasive ultrasound methods can be a fantastic offering when supporting sagging necks.

Dr Sindhu Sadiqqi has devised a two-step protocol she calls the ‘Peter Pan Collar’ treatment, as it creates an ‘ageless’ neck. Using ultrasound and injectable polynucleotides + skin boosters, this treatment uses the best in regenerative aesthetics. Both steps of the Peter Pan Collar Treatment encourage the body’s own regeneration of vital structural building blocks of the skin including collagen and elastin.

“I see patients with healthy, youthful complexions having taken control of positive ageing. However, for some, necklace line and wrinkles coupled with loose skin, are not age-related. In my case, I have had necklace lines and a slight sagging my whole adult life so I put this hard-hitting power-couple together for myself and I’m delighted with the results and therefore happy to share my secret. It may sound like the stuff of fairytales but this is regenerative cosmetic medicine at its best.” Says Dr Sidiqqi.

“Polynucleotides are a real buzz word in aesthetic medicine at the moment and we use Ameela, for its reliable and exceptional results, encouraging the skin’s reparative capacity. When injected into the skin in a particular pattern and concentration, Ameela delivers exactly the right cocktail of ingredients to encourage the regeneration of all the elements you need for youthful looking skin.”

Dr Daniel Hunt uses polynucleotides at Ouronyx, to enhance skin tone.

“Turkey neck is caused by loosening of the skin and muscle, exacerbated by the effects of gravity and ageing. As you age, the diminishing size of the jaw contributes to reduced skin tension. Ameela helps addressing this issue as polynucleotides stimulate the production of collagen and elastin. Additionally, it enhances skin tone and elasticity through tissue regeneration, ultimately resulting in firmer skin and a reduction in the visibility of a turkey neck.”

Dr Goziem Onuchukwu uses a similar technique to Dr Hunt, at Injectual studio. She explains the reasons polynucleotides are her chosen treatment.

“Polynucleotides are long-chain nucleic acids, which play a vital role in cellular regeneration and repair. When used in aesthetic treatments, they offer several benefits for skin rejuvenation, especially for delicate areas like the neck. Firstly, polynucleotides have been shown to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, essential proteins for maintaining skin elasticity and firmness. This action helps in reducing the sagging of skin, commonly observed in turkey neck. Additionally, polynucleotides possess hydrating properties, which improve skin texture and tone, making the skin appear more youthful and radiant. Moreover, the application of polynucleotides in aesthetic treatments is relatively non-invasive and has a low risk of side effects, making it a preferable choice for many patients. The treatment leads to gradual and natural-looking results, which is highly desirable for those seeking subtle yet effective anti-aging solutions. In the context of turkey neck, where the skin is more prone to visible signs of aging, polynucletides offer a great approach to restore a more youthful and firm appearance of the neck.”
