IMCAS publishes report on global growth of the aesthetic market

The International Master Course on Ageing Skin (IMCAS) has published new statistics on the global growth of the aesthetic marketplace.

The global market was estimated to be worth €5.7bn (£4.18bn) in 2014, with an increase of 14.3% compared to 2013.

The 2015 growth rate is estimated at 8,4% for the global market, taking the value to €6.2bn (£4.5bn). Europe has been affected by the economic crisis, especially Southern Europe, however, its market is slowly getting back to normal with an overall average growth of 6% per year.

The US is in a better position with a growth of about 7% per year, with Latin America having an average growth rate of nearly 8%. Asia-Pacific has seen the largest growth with an increase of 13% per year. The European market was estimated at €1.2bn (£880m) in 2015 and should reach €1.6bn (£1.17bn) in 2019. The US market in 2019 will still represent almost half of the global market (44%), followed by Asia (28%), Europe (18%) and Latin America (10%). Injectable products (botulinum toxins and fillers) are still the top market in terms of value (38%), but will only grow by 8% per year until 2019 to reach €3.2bn (£2.34bn).

Energy-based devices and body contouring devices are expected to keep growing at a rate of more than 9.8% per year. They should represent more than €3bn (£2.19bn) – 35% of the global market – in 2019. Cosmeceuticals will follow a trend of 7.3% growth per year and will reach 14% of the global market in 2019, which puts this sector ahead of breast implants. Breast implants will experience a slower growth, estimated at 4.9% per year until 2019 to reach €1.1bn (£800m).
