MediZen Clinic is commended for its charitable contributions at the Birmingham Business Awards 2016

MediZen Clinic, based in Mere Green, Sutton Coldfield was recognised for its numerous charitable contributions to the local community at The Birmingham Post Business Awards 2016.

The Awards ceremony was held at the International Convention Centre in Birmingham on Wednesday 26th October to a packed house of Birmingham’s topmost businesses including Jaguar Land Rover, Harvey Nichols and the Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

The event was hosted by comedian and broadcaster Dominic Holland and ITV weather presenter Emma Jesson, with entertainment from British-Armenian musician, comedian and actor Britain's Got Talen contestant Kevin Orkian.

In the Contribution to the Community category the finalists were chosen for their;

"Considerable dedication to corporate, social and ethical responsibility, having a positive impact on the community and who have contributed substantially to the community through various means, including society-led projects, aiding economic regeneration and supporting local suppliers."

MediZen faced stiff competition from local Birmingham based organisations, including the winner of the category Ladies Fighting Breast Cancer who are a Birmingham based charity who have raised over £1 million for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham and their Cancer services.

Ron Myers, co-owner of MediZen comments:

"We realise how lucky we are to be in a position where we can help people feel confident and positive, and we would like to pass on some of that to people who are in less fortunate situations than us. The value of this award can be measured in the strength of our competition and our competition in this philanthropic category was tough. We are both honoured and humbled to be recognised and nominated alongside the winners of the award, Ladies Fighting Breast Cancer, and we are pleased to have been commended for the various charitable efforts we undertake at MediZen. It is down to the hard work of our members of staff who are willing to contribute their time and effort, as well as our customers who consistently continue to support our fundraising efforts. With this recognition, we would like to highlight to other businesses in the medical aesthetic industry that giving back can pay off, ours certainly did, and how looking back on a seemingly small decision several years ago to hold a charity coffee morning would turn into our small clinic team sitting amongst the elite of Birmingham’s business community!”

MediZen’s charitable contributions to both the local area, as well as to national and international charity organisations are something the clinic is incredibly proud of. Over the past decade, they have held various events to raise money for worthy causes such as Macmillan coffee mornings, dinner parties, Mud Runners and marathons. The highlight of each year is the MediZen annual charity ball which has grown from an audience of 20 or so people to over 100 of our clients. Earlier this year both staff and customers alike came together to raise over £5000 to build educational and recreational facilities for children with learning difficulties at The Queens Croft High School in Lichfield, a charity nominated by the members of the MediZen team.

Their ongoing commitment to charity is also prevalent each month as they cast their net a little wider and, in partnership with non-profit organisation B1G1, choose an international charity to donate a portion of their profits to. The benefits have been far reaching with the clinic staff enjoying working in a business whose sole focus is not just profit for the owners.

MediZen give back to the community via their involvement with the global giving initiative B1G1 (www.b1g1.com). We believe that every business has the power to change lives by integrating a giving back philosophy into their everyday business activities. Via this initiative, MediZen donate to their chosen charity where their contributions can make a real, measurable difference. B1G1 enhances the quality of life, strengthens communities and reduces poverty through sustainable development.

Since MediZen started this initiative they have so far provided:

  • 39 blankets to newborn babies in Kenya
  • 34,675 days of access to life-saving clean water for families in Malawi
  • Fuel to deliver 2,500 meals for the poor in India
  • 26 scarves to orphans in Ukraine
  • Meals for 37 Ethiopian school children for a month
  • 31 sets of stationary to Children in Thailand
  • 24 pairs of glasses to those in need in Indonesia
  • 24 trees planted to save Orangutans in Borneo
  • 29 Audio Books to Blind children at a Malaysian Orphanage
  • 16 Clean Water Taps for villages in India
  • 32 Life-saving Mosquito nets to families in Cambodia
  • 31 Women sent on Menstrual training programs in Tanzania

Ron Myers comments: “The uplift in staff morale and the messages communicated to our client base show that we are about more than just profit. The resulting positive public relations have undoubtedly contributed to the overall success of MediZen.”
