Over half of adult women are fearful of the perimenopause

Of 2,069 UK women aged 18-74 surveyed, almost two-thirds (63%) yet to experience perimenopause and menopause didn’t realise signs can take hold ten years before their last period. Eight in ten women (80%) said they feel “unprepared" compared to just 17% of women claiming they would know how to prevent the signs and symptoms of perimenopause and menopause on the skin and body.
When asked how the impact of potential skin issues caused by perimenopause or how menopause might affect them, 57% said that they feel anxious and stressed and 58% felt they were generally lacking in confidence. Survey breakdowns also revealed that perimenopausal women experience more anxiety and stress about skin and body issues than menopausal women do (67% compared to 60%).
Skincare, aesthetics and wellness expert Dr Yusra, who commissioned the Glowing the Distance report, is calling for better education on the signs of menopause onset and symptoms of these, being empowered to take control early on in the journey to prevent the symptoms that can wreak havoc on the mind, skin and body.
“Awareness needs to make way for empowered preventative action," said Yusra. "The findings also tell us that women are prepared to adapt their skincare regimes to prevent the onset of signs such as hyperpigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles.”
