Beyond the Mirror – new book looks at client experience
Vorodyunkhina draws on her years of experience to show women of all ages what can be achieved, what is safe and how to avoid procedures they may later regret.
“This book is a great guide that can help practitioners understand better their patients’ emotional attributes and the motivation behind the treatment,” said Vorodyunkhina. “ It is also a great example of how important building a friendly, trusted and professional relationship is between the medical aesthetic team and patients.”
Vorodyunkhina said that even people who have not experienced treatments would find the book interesting, to gain a deeper understanding of what can realistically be achieved: “They will also read stories from our actual patients – ordinary people with different backgrounds and life stories; people they can relate to and think ‘that could be me’.”
Beyond the Mirror features real-life case studies, including the treatment the patients originally sought, behind-the-scenes advice and consultancy from Vorodyunkhina and Bertram pre-treatment, plus the results. Bertram is also a case study in the book.
“She was concerned about her eye area and believed the only solution was surgery,” said Vorodyunkhina. “However, using a combination of therapies over a period of time, we’ve achieved impressive results that surgery probably wouldn’t have achieved. This is down to a combination of factors: the correct explanation of the treatments available, proper education about each treatment and Jean’s commitment to the recommended regime and therapies.”
“To consider your clients' feelings is the most important part at the beginning of their journey,” said Bertram. “From personal experience, I needed to feel comfortable and confident in my doctor and the reflection started from the way I was greeted as I arrived for my first consultation.
“Often social media portrays the negative side of what facial aestheticians do; there are people out there that do things cheaply and unethically. We wanted to show that qualified medical professionals, using quality products such as new HA filler MaiLi from Sinclair can achieve fantastic, natural-looking results.”
Vorodyunkhina added: “People simply don’t know what medical aesthetics can achieve unless it’s properly explained to them, so we felt it was important to create an educational, but inspirational book so that people have a realistic understanding and expectation of what we can do for them.
Other case studies in the book include a young patient in her 30s whoVorodyunkhina was able to treat with just a “small amount of product”. She explains: “This patient has a very rounded face with well-defined cheekbones and a prominent jawline. We achieved a total face-shape change using just four millilitres of MaiLi. This is a perfect example of correct placement combined with the latest development in the product. I’ve presented her case at a few conferences and people are surprised that the reduction in her jawline was achieved with the correct placement of filler and not using Botulinum Toxin.”
Vorodyunkhina and Bertram also hope the book will help to ensure patients only seek out well-trained medical professionals using products that are properly licensed. “People can buy some products over the internet and inject themselves, but some of those products do not have a CE mark. This is very dangerous and worrying. People should always have treatment administered by a medical professional in a reputable clinic, using products that have a scientific process and clinical trials behind them.”
Beyond the Mirror will be published on November 26, 2022. It will available online at Amazon and all good bookshops.
