Today, 20 October, L-Nutra Health launched a clinician-led metabolic health programme that combines its Fasting Mimicking Diet (FMD) with nutritional coaching, laboratory testing, and medical oversight for patients with conditions including type 2 diabetes and obesity.
Available to clinics and medical practices, the programme involves periodic cycles of the plant-based FMD alongside personalised nutrition consultations and ongoing monitoring.
Partner practices are responsible for patient selection, clinical care and medication monitoring where required, while L-Nutra Health provides dietary kits, practitioner training and patient materials.
The launch is supported by research into the FMD, including a 2024 randomised controlled trial published in Diabetes Care.
Conducted by Leiden University Medical Centre, the 12-month study found that adults with type 2 diabetes who added periodic FMD cycles to their usual care experienced improved glycaemic control and reduced their use of glucose-lowering medication compared with the control group.
London-based HealthMatters Group is the first UK practice to offer the programme, with patient enrolment beginning on 20 October.
"Across Europe we're hearing the same thing from clinics: patients want a bigger say in their metabolic health, and practices want a credible way to respond," said Andrea Ghirardi, CEO, EMEA at L-Nutra.
"The UK is one of the most open markets we've seen for that conversation. Clinicians here already treat nutrition as part of metabolic care, and what they've been asking us for is a programme with the evidence and the support to run it properly in their own practice. We're starting in London, and we intend to grow that network across the UK," explains Dr William Hsu, chief medical officer of L-Nutra
