28% increase in two years and a shift in consumer preferences toward natural, low-downtime treatments.

The Tweakments Guide has released its latest survey, revealing a remarkable 28% increase in consumer spending on aesthetic ‘tweakments’ over the past two years.

The findings from The Tweakments Census, conducted across a well-informed audience of around 1,000 respondents, highlight how consumer choices and attitudes are evolving in the aesthetic sector. The survey, designed to monitor consumer interest, spending habits, and perceptions, offers a critical snapshot of trends set to shape the future of aesthetic procedures.

Spending increases on all tweakments

The Census showed decreased spending on cosmetic surgery at one end of the treatments scale and advanced facials at the other end. Between these two poles however there was an increase across the board in spending on all tweakments. Average yearly expenditure on tweakments has risen by 28% over two years.

A shift toward ‘natural’ results with device-based treatments

Within tweakments there has been a change of emphasis from injectables toward device-based treatments such as laser therapy, microneedling, and energy-based solutions, which are favoured for their minimal downtime and natural-looking results.

This shift is partly attributed to rising consumer demand for subtle enhancements and reduced recovery periods, as well as the influence of high-profile celebrity cases and more emphasis on areas such as jaw and chin treatments.

Yet Botulinum toxin remains the most popular tweak.

Far from being on the wane as is often popularly supposed, Botulinum toxin is by far the tweakment that most respondents had most often.

“As aesthetic procedures become more mainstream, consumers are clearly prioritising treatments that fit seamlessly into their lives while offering discreet, natural outcomes,” said Alice Hart-Davis, respected beauty journalist and founder of The Tweakments Guide. “Our findings indicate greater interest in advanced device-based options, yet consumers still face confusion around the range of treatments available and which solutions best meet their needs.”

Other key findings from The Tweakments Census

·      Growing popularity of jaw and chin treatments: Inspired by celebrity trends, these areas have seen a surge in popularity, overtaking traditional treatments like lip enhancement.

·      Lingering stigma: some consumers still report hesitation around perceived vanity and lack of information.

·      Preferred information sources and trusted providers: Respondents revealed a tendency to rely on recognisable device names over those most effective for their concerns, indicating a gap in consumer education and transparency within the industry.

·      The Modern aesthetic consumer: Insight Into Motivations and Concerns. The Tweakments Census also examined respondents’ reasons for undergoing treatments, factors that might prevent them from doing so, and how they choose practitioners. Notably, more respondents indicated they are likely to discuss their tweakments with friends rather than partners, pointing to a shift toward social acceptance, although some stigma remains.

Barriers to treatment remain similar, with cost, fear of unnatural results, and concerns over adequate information ranking as the top obstacles. The findings underscore the importance of consumer education to dispel misconceptions and provide greater clarity around aesthetic treatments and their benefits.
