Masks become compulsory in clinic again

The UK Government has updated its coronavirus guidance for close contact services (which includes aesthetics treatments) in light of the new Omicron variant.

Masks are once again mandatory in clinic for staff and patients (unless exempt). Visors are not required.

However, the rule only applies to reception staff if there is no physical barrier or screen between them and a person standing on the other side of the desk. If there is a physical barrier or screen, masks do not need to be worn.

The updated Government guidance for close contact services came into force on November 30, 2021, and can be viewed here.

Under the guidance, patients can remove their mask for relevant treatments, as before.

Clinic owners should be aware that it is a legal requirement in England for close contact services to display a notice advising that face coverings must be worn unless a person is exempt. The notice must be displayed in a visible location such as on the front door of the premises.

This survey showed the impact of covid-19 on aesthetics practitioners after the first lockdown.
