Medik8 puts environment first in bid to become the 'world’s most sustainable professional brand'
As of today (September 6, 2019) Medik8 has announced that every product manufactured by the brand is now 100% vegan-friendly and uses 100% post-consumer recycled plastic. This is in line with the brand’s wider campaign surrounding the Professional Refresh (launching October 2019), positioning Medik8 as “The World’s Most Sustainable Professional Brand.”
These commitments towards ensuring a more environmentally friendly product and minimising the brand’s carbon footprint are just a few of the many initiatives within Medik8’s sustainability crusade, making the above statement more than fitting. 100% RECYCLABLE PROFESSIONAL PRODUCT
In 2019, Medik8 are striving towards all their professional products used in pro treatments being 100%recyclable; caps, pumps, bottles, everything. This is not greenwashing. This is an honest commitment.
100% POST CONSUMER RECYCLED PLASTIC
From September 2019, every professional Medik8 product in a plastic bottle will be made from 100%Post-Consumer Recycled (PCR) material. This means not only are they recyclable, but they are alsoMADE of 100% recycled material. Medik8 use plastic derived from former drinks bottles that wouldotherwise have just gone to landfill; taking centuries to degrade. This PCR material is primarilysourced from the UK to minimise our carbon footprint.
100% VEGAN
Every single product manufactured by Medik8 (both in the retail andprofessional ranges) is 100% vegan-friendly.
ZERO PALM OIL
You'll be assured to hear that since 2017, Medik8 products have had 0kg of pure palm oil content.
11% LESS WASTE
All Medik8’s new recycled PCR bottles allow for more formula to flow because of the new PET material(Polyethylene Terephthalate) being used which means creams and lotion slide out more easily,helping to eliminate waste. 11% in fact.
OCEAN PLASTIC ENDEAVOUR
Medik8’s next long-term commitment will be to move all their professional product to Ocean Plasticderived materials; plastic waste sourced from our oceans, rivers and seas.
PRE-LOVED GLASS
Medik8 currently uses amber bottles to prevent UV penetration and degradation of their formulasinside. These glass bottles are made of 40% recycled glass and are naturally recyclable - 40% is theaccepted 'industry maximum' but Medik8 are looking to improve this. Working with localmanufacturers to find a way to incorporate even more recycled glass without any compromise toperformance.
INGREDIENT FOCUS
Since 2009, Medik8 have always been known as the 'green chemistry' brand; making products usingan energy efficient process; from sourcing of ingredients to initial research and final manufacturing.Currently they are reviewing their 'ingredient deck’ and carrying out ‘ingredient audits’ to be 100%certain of every ingredient's origin and impact on the environment.
MEDIK8 HATE WASTE
Alongside all these individual endeavours, Medik8 are constantly reviewing how they can makeimprovements. In 2018, Medik8 removed 3 tonnes of plastic from packaging and replaced it with smallFSC card inserts. All Medik8’s product cartons, collateral materials; leaflets, posters, bags, boxes,ribbons and alike are printed on FSC certified recycled and recyclable materials with soya inks topreserve the environment.
