Search interest in the cosmetic lip flip has surged in the UK, with new data showing 361,000 searches in the past month. This data follows the growing trend towards more natural cosmetic treatments.
A lip flip uses botulinum toxin to relax the muscle above the upper lip, allowing it to gently roll outward and create the appearance of a fuller, more defined lip without adding volume. Unlike filler, it doesn’t add size, but it subtly changes how the lip sits and moves.
Fuelled by celebrity beauty trends, led by stars such as Hailey Bieber, Zendaya, and Margot Robbie, patients are seeking lips that are more defined, compared to the previously popular look of voluptuous lips, which was achieved with lip filler.
According to search data analysed by Fresha, searches for lip flips are up 6% month-on-month, with a clear upward trajectory over the past five years.
The shift towards natural treatments
Celebrities are often the blue print for aesthetic trends, and there has been a clear shift towards suble enhancements, which trickles down towards patient expectations.
On the podcast In Your Dreams, Hayley Bieber shared that she only gets botulinum toxin for TMJ and relies on using PRP and PRF in her smile lines and under her eyes. The star explained that she made the decision to hold off on getting any botulinum toxin until her thirties.
In an interview with Variety, Euphoria actress Sydney Sweeney shared, “I’ve never gotten anything done. I’m absolutely terrified of needles. No tattoos. Nothing. I’m going to age gracefully.”
This shift away from more traditional aesthetic procedures and towards regenerative, natural treatments such as PRP mirrors a wider preference for subtle enhancement over visible change.
Lip treatments are gaining momentum this winter
Fresha reports continued interest in lip-focused treatments during the winter months, including:
Lip filler – still the most commonly requested enhancement, especially ahead of party season
Lip Flip – now attracting over 360,000 searches a month, with sustained growth rather than one-off viral spikes
Lip blushing – a semi-permanent tint treatment trending heavily on social platforms
Lip hydration facials – designed to combat dryness, cracking and loss of definition caused by cold weather
“Cold air, indoor heating and dehydration all affect the lips faster than people realise. That’s why we always recommend treating lip health and lip aesthetics as the same conversation, not separate ones,” explains Fresha’s beauty specialist, Danielle Louise.
Lip care for the colder season
- Avoid alcohol, caffeine and spicy food for 24 hours before injections.
- Don’t combine filler and lip flip treatments without a professional consultation.
- Use daily hydrating lip masks or oils to maintain skin integrity.
- Book at least two weeks before a major event to allow swelling or stiffness to settle.
