Thérapie Clinics announces first aesthetics clinic opening in New York City

Thérapie Medical Group, which has a network of clinics across Ireland and the UK, has announced that it is expanding into the United States. The company is set to open its first aesthetics clinic in New York City in March 2023.

The new c. 2,7000 sq. ft. clinic is situated in New York’s Flatiron district. It will offer a range of medical aesthetics treatments including laser hair removal, cosmetic injections, body, and skin treatments.

The announcement comes as Thérapie Medical Group reported revenue of more than €100 million in 2022, up from €65 million in 2021. This is, in part, due to eight new clinic openings, including a modern ophthalmology surgery in Carrickmines, Dublin.

It also reflects the increased contribution of the 23 clinics (including the acquired Skinsmiths chain of London clinics) that were opened in 2021, following the impact of the coronavirus pandemic. It brings the total number of clinics to 71, across the company’s three business segments - Thérapie Clinic, Optilase and Thérapie Fertility.

Moreover, in September 2022, the group launched Skin Theøry, a skincare range created by the Thérapie Clinic team, which built upon its 20 years of in-clinic experience.

For 2023, the group is focusing on the further rollout of more Thérapie Clinics in Ireland, the UK and the US, as well as expanding on the successful launch of Thérapie Fertility. So far, it has raised €30 million of debt capital to support this growth, which includes the opening in the Flatiron District of New York City.

“This expansion has been in the pipeline for the past number of years and the opening of the clinic in New York this March is a huge milestone for the entire Thérapie Clinic team,” commented the CEO of Thérapie Clinic, Phillip McGlade. “On researching the potential of growing into the US, we believe that Therapie offers US customers a distinctive offering. With the funds raised, along with support from our established central team and global partners, we’re excited by the opportunity to enter and grow in the world’s largest aesthetic market”.

Thérapie Medical Group’s expansion follows continued head office recruitments. In 2021, Andy McCue, the former chief executive of Paddy Power was appointed to the board as non-executive chairman, and Ger Barry, previously Glenveagh Properties PLC executive, was announced as CFO. There were additional new hires to support the senior leadership team across people and culture, marketing, operations, technology and finance departments too. The group now employs more than 1,200 people; the vast majority of which, c.500, are based in Ireland.

Thérapie Medical Group is an Irish family business, run by siblings Phillip McGlade and Katie McGlade. It is one of the leading European providers of laser hair removal, cosmetic injections, fertility treatments, and laser eye and lens replacement surgeries.
