Enhancing patient safety in aesthetics.
Dr Jordan Faulkner, founder of Allo Aesthetics, is a dedicated aesthetic physician who leads a mentorship scheme for clinicians in London and Yorkshire.
As an advocate for stricter regulations within the aesthetics industry, he has recently developed an educational initiative with Mrs Kelly Turner, Dr Jemma Buck and Dr Nikita Bhoombla for emergency medicine doctors focused on managing vascular occlusions, complications that can arise during aesthetic procedures performed by non-clinical injectors.
Through pre- and post-presentation quizzes, Dr Faulkner assessed emergency department physicians’ knowledge about filler complications, revealing alarming gaps in awareness and confidence.
His findings indicated that many doctors had encountered filler complications but lacked familiarity with current regulations and treatment protocols, including the use of hyaluronidase.
Dr Faulkner emphasises that the need for improved knowledge among emergency doctors is secondary to the urgent requirement for more stringent industry regulations. His work highlights the critical need for a safer environment for patients undergoing aesthetic treatments, especially as the government considers new regulations.
His collaborative approach and commitment to education aim to bridge the gaps in knowledge and improve safety in aesthetic practices.
