Meno-fessions: survey shines light on relatable menopause symptoms

Updated on 21st Oct 2025

Shining a light-hearted stance on Menopause Awareness month, a new survey showcases the hilariously human side of menopause. The survey also revealed a shift in attitudes around menopause, with 61% of women feeling comfortable opening up about their menopause experiences.

What symptoms do patients experience during menopause?

The survey from Hervitality by Balance Activ asked 1,000 menopausal women to share their experiences during the menopause.

‘Brain fog’ is a common menopause symptom; 46% of respondents have forgotten people’s names due to “brain fog”, and 62% of women shared losing their train of thought.

66% of women shared their experiences of having uncomfortable hot flushes and sweating in a public place.

42% of respondents admitted to snapping at someone or becoming uncharacteristically emotional in moments they later found embarrassing.

“Meno-Fessions”

Menopause represents a period of change in any biological woman’s life. For many of the 15.5 million menopausal women, navigating this time and the symptoms can come with a unique set of challenges.

This survey highlights some of these more embarrassing challenges, encouraging women to share their most relatable “Meno-Fessions”.

Here are some of these unforgettable confessions:

  • “At a family gathering, I suddenly sneezed and accidentally let out a loud, unexpected sound. Everyone turned to look, and I blushed. Now, I laugh about it, realising that menopause can bring surprising moments that keep life interesting.”

  • “I broke a finger after losing my temper trying to remove a stone from a nectarine and hitting the worktop instead.”

  • “I cracked an egg directly into the food waste instead of the frying pan.”

  • “Forgetting my child in the shop. Luckily, she was old enough to find me, but I got to my car and was about to leave. I looked back and thought how much that girl looked like my daughter, not realising it was her… oops.”

  • “Trying to get into someone else’s car thinking it was mine.”

  • “In a meeting, asking my team for more copulation instead of co-operation! Word confusion was an issue during the menopause.”

“What we need to remember is that behind the statistics are real women and their real stories- the funny, frustrating, and all-too-relatable moments that come with navigating menopause. These candid confessions shine a light on the shared experiences that unite women through every stage of menopause,” shares Dr Megha Dhavale

“The inspiration for meno-fessions came from a conversation I had in real life, with other women, all sharing our experiences and reliving some of our more embarrassing memories. It is about women, regardless of age or stage of life, knowing these moments are never something to be ashamed of and, I hope, by finding moments of humour and opening up the conversation, women will talk to and support each other, and ultimately feel less alone.”
