1. Labiaplasty
Search increase between 2022 and 2024: 68%
The labiaplasty procedure is rising in demand in the UK, as searches have rocketed by 68% since September 2022.
Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure that alters the size or shape of the labia, which are the folds of skin in the vulva. It can be done for a number of reasons, including pain or discomfort caused by excessive tissue, cosmetic reasons, or gender-affirming surgery. It can be performed using a local or general anaesthetic, and the procedure usually takes one to two hours.
According to a national audit by the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, 31,057 cosmetic procedures took place in 2022, up 102% from the previous year. Labiaplasty was among the most popular procedures, with 907 performed.
Sophie Cooper, Managing Director at Harley Street Skin Clinic comments:
“The data we have found reflects what we have seen in the clinic, that demand for labiaplasties is rising quickly in the UK. We see various clients come to us interested in the procedure from those simply feeling insecure or unhappy about the appearance of their genitals to others who wish to improve comfort.
“It’s hard to pinpoint a definitive reason why the procedure is surging in popularity right now, but of course much discussion points to the influence of pornography, social media and celebrities who have undergone the procedure.
“For some, they do undergo the procedure for aesthetic reasons, simply because they want to ‘improve’ the appearance of their genitals. This is something we see predominantly with Only Fans creators, many of whom see the procedure as an investment for their careers.
“However, the emphasis that the procedure is only for appearances is something which does create a taboo for the procedure. For many people, the procedure can be something that helps to boost self-confidence, improve mental health or, for many, improve physical comfort.
"It can’t be denied that labiaplasty as a surgery is now becoming more mainstream, but as more people look to undergo the procedure we’d encourage them to strongly consider the reasons behind their interest in labiaplasty.
“There is of course much discourse around the pressures people face to look perfect and we’d recommend that any patient ensures they are happy with the decision and that the procedure is done only in the circumstances where it will improve mental or physical health, and have a positive ongoing effect on their lives.”

Search increase between 2022 and 2024: 49%
Abdominoplasty, also known as a tummy tuck, was searched over 54,000 times in the UK over the last twelve months, an increase of 49% from the previous year.

It can treat loose skin that can’t be removed through exercise, such as after pregnancy or significant weight loss. It can also help to treat stretch marks. Tummy tucks are usually only recommended for people with a healthy body mass index (BMI).
